In my second year at Grafisch Lyceum Rotterdam (GLR), a number of animation students was selected to each create a 20-second animation promo for the then upcoming info day. From all the animations made, the best one was going to be shown in local cinemas in Rotterdam and The Hague, while also being used as social media material along with the second and third best animations.

My animation became second best and was therefore used for social media and narrow casting at school.

We were totally free to decide what the animation would look like. 2D and 3D were both allowed, as long as the animation showcases the creativity being sparked at GLR and the wide range of curriculems GLR offers.

It was at this stage of the curriculem I was trying to use a mutliple tools together. Where I used to make my 2D animations fully in Adobe Animate, I have now painted my backgrounds in Photoshop. This backgrounds were imported in Animate for subtle movements.

I have created four students for the promo. It was important that the diversity of students was showcased. All drawn, rigged and animated in Animate. The world is decorated with tools used for creative tasks. The green landscape is filled with pencils, while there is also a scene of the Luchtsingel yellow walkway close to the school, covered in decals that show the tools used during the curriculems.

The final montage and title and logo animation were done in After Effects. The latter was the only element in the promo that had a number of visual requirements. ‘ENTER THE CREATIVE WORLD’ had to be in the frame, along with the GLR logo, website link and the info day date.
